RESULTS: Thursday Night F1 League: Round 6 @ Monaco

Tuesday, May 28, 2013
Loved by crowds but hated by the drivers Monaco has to be one of the most prestigious events on the F1 Calender. Every driver aspires to have the trophy up on their mantel piece.

So important is the Qualifying as history shows that the pole sitter will go on to win the event due to the tight and twisting circuit. The qualifying session was dominated by the ever impressive David Lord as he found himself on pole position for the 45 lap race.

Even the formation lap was tight as drivers are trying to get maximum heat into the tyres because they all know that turn 1 can be disastrous if not executed correctly. Engines revving and they are off but almost the entire field was disqualified due to an early start.

Race (Take Two):

Thanks the experienced Evan Golbach who advised the other drivers that to start at Monaco you have to wait until the green light to go out before starting the race and that’s exactly what they did……instead of Matt Anderson who must have been listening to the team principle and mist the advise on the restart copping a drive through penalty. They all get away cleanly through turn one and pole sitter David Lord slips back into P2 as Matt resumed P1 with the jump start and the pending penalty. At the end of lap one its Matt Anderson then David Lord, Andrew Trent,Evan Golbach and rookie Hagen Bahnemann rounding out the field.
Lap 3 and Andrew is finding it hard to get grip as he enters the pits to replace the damaged front wing. He is closely followed by Hagen who is also in for damage. As Andrew re-joined the circuit he had Evan right on his tail and the marshals were quick to wave the blue flag and Evan rolls by.
Lap 8 and Hagen finds himself 180 degrees facing the wrong way at the entrance to the tunnel. This could have got ugly as Andrew and Evan wiz past him clocking over 250 km/h. but all get through unscathed. David Lord now dominating up front with a 33 second lead due to Matt serving his penalty. Not long after David makes an uncharacteristic mistake and finds the fence on the double right hander before the main straight but he is not phased as he knows he has the pace to make up for lost time.
Lap 19 and the gap between the 2 leaders has dwindled down to just 9 seconds and holding firm. The lapped cars doing their best to stay out of the leaders way. Half way through the race and the gap is now down to just 7 seconds. And the standings are David, Matt, Evan, Andrew and Hagen. With just 7 laps remaining David pits for fresh rubber but re-joins with a comfortable 12 second lead. On the last Lap Evan crashes hard into the fence snapping his front wing. Not realising that all he had to do was nurse the car round 2 more corners he pits and unfortunately loses 3rd place on pit row.
A solid win for David out front but was kept honest by Matt. Im sure the other drivers where just happy to take home the points and a great first race for Hagen. He couldn’t have picked a more difficult job in starting the F1 League but he did well.
