The Spanish GP hosted round 5 of the championship in Barcelona. This is a greatly anticipated event as the top drivers compete to stamp their position as the number 1 driver in 2015.
Scott Daniels currently leads the championship with only 10 championship points separating the top 4 drivers. Jaycie Richards the flying rookie holds 2nd place on the ladder, closely followed by 2 veteran driver both with a wealth of experience in Shane Gilfeather and Adam Gill. Duran Nikora holds 5th on the ladder and a regular driver in the V8 Supercar league is certainly showing he can adapt to any vehicle and closing in on the leaders.

The race got underway with Matt Anderson starting from pole. Shane got off the line well but ran wide in the first corners dropping back. Scott and Duran both got away cleanly. Jaycie had a moment getting off the line and moved back down the pack. Adam had a moment on the first hairpin and found the kitty litter which relegated him to the back of the pack. Matt DeGroot and Michael Donnellan both were consistent in the first few laps and rounding out the field was Matt Sofi. It was his first drive of the year and he was still adjusting to the new cars.
Lap 14 saw everyone settle into the race groove, and after the first round of pit stops and not long after saw the retirement of a few drivers both Matt DeGroot and Matt Sofi suffered mechanical failures and retired from the race. Scott Daniels suffered a technical issue with ruled him out as well. This certainly was going to put his championship lead in jeopardy.
Mid race Saw Matt Anderson dominating the field with a 22sec lead over Duran in 2nd. Jaycie held the final podium position. Shane was running 4th followed by Michael and Adam.
As the race entered in to the final stages Matt held his lead however Duran was putting the hammer down trying everything he had to close the gap to Matt, Jaycie held a solid 3rd place over Shane in 4th, Jaycie is proving himself to be championship contender with consistent finishes all season. Very impressive results from him, in his rookie season.
Matt was unstoppable and lead the race from start to finish. Great race!!!
Next stop sees the teams head to the majestic course on the water front. The home of the rich and famous in Monaco.
