Amaroo Park was a 1.9 kilometres circuit located in Annangrove, New South Wales, It was opened in 1967 and held its own touring car series from 1971 to 1993, initially as the Sun-7 Chesterfield Series and then under various names, including the "AMSCAR Series" from 1982. The circuit closed forever after the last meeting was held there on 23 August 1998. Tonight it is host to our Summer Series.
Qualify:
Allan Marks as the pacesetter in practice, got around the track first. Pat O’Reilly held onto pole position for less than a minute before Ross shot to the top. Jeremy got very close (+0.06) to knocking off Ross. Allan found -0.3s, scraping the final turn wall whilst on the limit. With 10 minutes to go, Allan was rightly confident that his 0:42.952 would remain untouched and he hopped out of the car to watch his rivals. He did finish the session in P1.
Race #1:
Shane gets upside down. Jeremey squeezed Allan off-road and redressed the position, but both get dropped way back. Francarlo, Ross and Jason as the masters of avoiding drama assume the top spots. An entertaining battle pack emerges at the rear, featuring Shane, Iain, Allan and Jeremy. The latter got rather creative in terms of off-track racing lines. Up and down the field saw plenty of flexed fibreglass, but the action stayed on the track. Francarlo drew first blood.
Race #2:
Iain survived the reverse gird slash turn one lottery for the lap one lead. Francarlo picked through the field to first and built a sizable lead. Pat got hit by an unstable Brendon, flipped over the fence and DNF’d.
Race #3:
Brendon started on pole and held onto it for dear life in the first lap. Jeremy charged through the field most efficiently and claimed a 5 second head start on the seemingly unstoppable Francarlo. Brendon once again found himself in the firing line as he made contact with race leader, Jeremy who lost his unsalable 5 second lead. Francarlo happily acquired Jeremy’s potential race win.
Race #4:
A chaotic start led to a race restart but Shane still managed to find trouble. Chris held first lap honours with Jason and Jeremy close behind. Chris got speared by Jason, who immediately redressed the position, effectively both of them to the rear. That left Jeremy to defend his new lead from Ross. At the halfway point, Francarlo slipped through and was once again challenging Jeremy. Biding his time, he pounced on a gap past Jeremy and ran away for the win.
Race #5:
Ross got turned anonymously, skated off backwards. Francarlo led Jason away from the rest of the field. Jeremy touched the wall on pit straight giving him the wobbles and eventually lost the rear end and headed to the back of the field. After 5 laps The 2 leaders had stretched their lead while Allan, Pat and Scott all chased for P3. Iain McIntosh and Jamie Scanlan battling hard in P7 & P8. This was allowing Racecentre’s own Enda and Shane to closed in. Ross Rizzo in his “Boeing” Livery was flying back through the pack now making up into P4. Iain McIntosh now reminding Shane that he is still there to race as they both mow down Scott Durham for P6. Jeremy Pernesz was another car on the charge moving back up through the field to finish in P5. Francarlo too good on the night taking 5 wins from 5 races. Brooksy finishes in P2 and Allen Marks taking the 3rd step of the podium.
