Round 2 of the Summer series saw the miniatures race cars on the Adelaide GP. With what looked to be the perfect track for these tiny machines, most drivers were having difficulty keeping the cars stable.
QUALLY
Jason Brooks set the pace with a 1:24.027, and Mick Floyd's knowledge of these cars clocked him close behind with a 1:24.262, while Allan's practice session kept his pace in under 1:25's.
RACE 1 – 7 laps
The first of 5 got underway without a hitch; however, Chris Naoumovski lost his nerve on the third corner, while Jeremy lost his on the next. With most drivers still finding their feet (or wheels, if you don’t mind) the 5 race mini-series was there for the taking.
RACE 2 – 10 laps
Race 2 looked like most drivers had settled down and gotten used to the track. Still a few corners to master by a couple of the drivers, overall a clean race. Having won the first two races, Jason had really set the pace for the field to catch.
RACE 3 – 10 laps
After a short break to stretch the legs, concentration seemed to have gone out the window. There were tumbles, spills and drivers all over the tarmac. If there was anytime to make up some points on the overall standings, this race was the one to make up some ground. And it did look that way with Shane Gilfeather and Mick out in front for several laps. But that didn’t last, Jason & Jeremy making up quality time to reel in 2nd & 3rd spots respectively. Mick did hold on to finish first.
RACE 4 – 13 laps
Race 4 saw our major incident of the night. Shane was unfortunately relegated to the pits within the first lap, being taken out of 2nd place by a major dive bomb from Chris Naumovski, flipped and stuck on top of the tyre barrier. Mick and Allan were pushing their claim for a late surge at the title by setting quality, consistent laps. Mick took out the first 13 lap race, Jason 2nd and Allan 3rd.
RACE 5 – 13 laps
Good clean start, and it was the usual suspects setting the pace. Mick took a commanding lead after lap 1, and Jeremy, Jason and Allan all vying for precious points and second spot. Chris looked comfortable mid field and Iain and Jamie were playing cat and mouse for most of the race in 6th and 7th respectively.
Mick managed to hold out for the win, however, with Jason coming second, it wasn’t enough for Mick to take out the overall points, finishing just 3 points behind Jason. Allan held on for third, but finished 4th overall behind Jeremy.
