RESULTS: Round 1 Mixed Championship League

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Round one of our 2012 Mixed Championship League kicked off last night with a field of 12 drivers - 8 located in Sydney and 4 at the Gold Coast.

First round for the championship saw us racing Renault Meganes around Laguna Seca.

Practice was followed by a 10 minute qualifying session with 2 x  ten lap sprints. A second qualifying and a final 15 lap race.  Drivers had no assists, 70% damage and full flag rules.

Race 1, turn one… and let the chaos begin. As usual at the start of a new season, too much pushing and shoving ensued and there was an immediate safety car incident. It took a while to sort the order but in the end it was a seasoned campaigner that led the field at the re-start and was never headed. Race one to Rob Cooper in the Gold Coast. Ross Rizzo fastest lap with a 1:29.447, nice work mate.

Race 2. Lessons not very well learned and again we had multiple safety car issues. This time the Sydney boys took it to the Gold Coast lads and dominated the race. David Lord took the win and the fastest lap 1:29.983, well done.

Race 3.  After a discussion regarding driving standards we kicked off the final race of the night. With the pressure on from Rory Boyd our 2011 Series Champ, Ian Salteri kept his cool and took out the race win. Ross Rizzo again with a fastest lap of 1:29.767

Ross Rizzo showed great qualifying speed with the best lap of the night of 1:28.774. David Lord took the round win, Rob Cooper second and Ross third.

Well done to all the boys for a cracker opening night. Looks like some of the newbies will need some practice prior to the next event: Evo's at Wakefield and Eastern Creek in two weeks’ time.

Thanks guys - See you then!
