RESULTS: Wednesday Night V8 League: Round 6 @ Hidden Valley NT

Thursday, June 26, 2014

After a long stint the V8 boys were keen to hit the track. If the temp's in Darwin was anything to go by then the action was going to be HOT and boy did it deliver !!!

Qually:

Chris Beresford drew first blood with a cracking 1:02.987 but the usual suspect ddin't let that phase him as David Lord sqeezed in a time a fraction better to take pole. The rookie pair sharing a drive did a stella job to quallify in P4 after holding 3rd for almost the whole session thanks to David Lord's race engineers. Ben Martin and Andrew Connelly where pipped at the end by Matt Pisani. It was hard to get a clean run with a full feild but the guys did really well.

Race #1

Chris Beresford get the run down the main straight but clips the inside barriers at speed which threw him into the kitty litter on the outside of t1. It looked like he and Lord held hands as they both parted the track on the openeing lap. The rest of the boys started to settle down and find their own rythym. Greg Gavalas spins on the entry of the last turn of Lap 6 as he has Lord close behind trying to cut his way back through the pack. Up front and its Matt Pisani ahead of Enda Murphy and Ben Martin. Beresford was coming up to make it a 3 way battle for P2 before ben Martin looped it coming out of the hairpin on Lap 8. Justn Wilson was forced to pit for tyres and a bumper. This advanced Beresford and Lord into P3 & 4. With all the littles battles going on Murphy stretches his lead to 2 secs while he starts to lap the field. Iain McIntosh and troy Czislowski doing well in P6 & 7. Beresford spins in the last turn of the last lap to finish behind Matt Pisani in 3rd and David Lord in 2nd. Enjoying his 1st win of the season was Enda Murphy a clear 2 seconds ahead of the pack. A great drive by him. Well Done !!!

Race #2

What can i say but it was an absolute blood bath at Turn 1 for the reverse gridded race 2. With over 6 drivers all braking for the turn at the same time something was bound to come off second best. After all the carnage it was Greg Gavalas and Jayme Hemi out front with Beresfors hunting them down in P3. Not bad after starting second last. Another oustanding drive is from Jayme Hemi as he is now in P1 with a 2 sec lead. Murphy carving his way back through the pack is now up into P5. He was the worst effected from the Turn 1 incident.
Seven laps down and they are all starting to spread out except for Ben Martin's Co-Driver Andrew Donnelly who is trying to take P6 away from Troy Czislowski. Lord struggling in P8 trying to reduce the deficit to the leaders. Justin Wilson and Mick Spiteri first to stop for tyres but other drivers have clearly got a different strategy for this race as they look like they are not going to pit at all. Murphy the highest of the pitted drivers currently in P6 trailing the top 5 by 25 secs. Beresford in P1 is holding firm with Lord on his tail. Andrew Donnelly in P4 with Pisani on his tail.
Last lap and Lord dives in underneath Beresford to take the lead. Three corners later and Beresford has blown a tyre coming into the hairpin. He now has Donnelly and Pisani sniffing blood as they chase him down as there is nothing he can do but to bring it home safely. The pass Beresford but Pisani get the job done on Donnelly on the last turn. They both are side by side down the main straight but Pisani takes 3rd away from Donnelly. A stirling drive from Czislowski to bring it home 2nd just behing Lord.

Race #3

The lights go green on the final race and Lord and Beresford manage to keep their noses clean as Iain McIntosh dive bomb's on cold tyres and nearly takes out the entire field. Czislowski in great for to hold P3. What the pit strategy going to be for this 35 lap race?
Lap 8 and Lord now solid in P1 with a 5 sec gap over Beresford. Murphy now in P3 ahead of Czislowski. kevin Maartensz makes a great move on getting in the draft of Wade Keenan as he passes him down the main straight to take P5 but the battle isn't over yet. Hemi is hassling the front markers as he has a fresh set of tyres while the others are nursing theirs for a 1 stopper. Ben Martin sees this and lets him go only to put the power down too early and heads straight for the armco losing his front bumper. Fortunately its only a couple of laps out from his scheduled pit stop so he he comes in for a tyre change, a bumper change and a driver change. Andrew Donnelly steps in and is raring to go only to cop a drive through. This puts them from p5 to P12. Tough luck guys !!
justin Wilson who didn't get a great start is charging up and is currently in P8. Lap 22 and Lord is still P1 with a 10 second gap over Beresford and Murphy. Iain McIntosh again trying to dive bomb on T1 out brakes himself and spins into the gravel at T1. Fortunately Gavalas saw this coming so he delayed his entry to watch McIntosh fly past his windscreen.
Two laps to go and Beresford is lapping a good 3 seconds faster then Murphy who is now in 2nd after Beresford made a 2nd pitstop for tyres. With a 15 second gap there is not enough laps as he finishes 10 seconds back in 3rd. Lord takes the win with a clinical drive with Enda Murphy taking 2nd.
