F1 Headed to Hungry for the last race before the mid-season break. This was sure to be a good race on one of the most demanding circuits the drivers will visit this season. We had 4 drivers take up the challenge on an unforgiving circuit where touching the wrong ripple strip had disastrous consequences.

Duran Nikora and Scott Daniels were able to hold their nerves and post times in the 1:21sec bracket followed by Adam Gill and Matt DeGroot  in the 1:24’s. This was setting up to be a great close race.

QUALLY:

Qually got underway and Nikora after looked refreshed after taking a break and was able to take pole with a blistering 1:21:800 the fast through qualy and Practice. Daniels would fill the nuber 2 spot with a 1:21:932, followed by DeGroot with a 1:23 and Gill with a 1:24

RACE:

Turn 1 and this was going to be a good race 3 wide and everyone gave each other racing room until turn 5 where Daniels spun . This gave Nikora some breathing space up the front. DeGroot held 2nd and Gill in 3rd.

Daniels after his spin was in unfamiliar territory at the back of the pack and now had the task of closing a 20sec gap to Nikora in 1st.   DeGroot struggled to get a handle on the circuit in practice however once the visor dropped and the race started he hit his rhythm and lapped consistently in the 1:24sec bracket to stay in touch with the flying Nikora out front.

Gill caught up to DeGroot and the pressure was too great and DeGroot came of 2nd best and lost his front wing forcing him into the pits for an early stop. This was sure to bring pit strategy into the mix.

Lap 11 saw Daniels catch Gill, and the battle persued, Daniels was turning up the heat on Gill however Gill was responding well until he dove off into the pits at the end of the lap for fresh rubber. Daniels stayed out to try and take 2nd on pit strategy. On exiting the pits Gill found himself just behind DeGroot after the 1st stops were completed. It was now Gills turn to apply the pressure  Gill had a look under DeGroot into turn 1 he went deep under brakes and was able to pull it up but the back stepped out and this allowed DeGroot to hold the racing line and speed and retain 3rd.

Gill took a deep breath and resumed the chase. The battle pushed both drivers, and combined with Daniels pushing his tyres and losing time both were able to pass to take 2nd and 3rd.  Lap 16 Gill had pulled right back up under DeGroot’s rear wing and Daniels was closing in fast on the pair of them .
Lap 17 saw Gill have another look on the inside but again was not able to secure the pass. Both drivers were on their A game, racing fast and close but giving each other enough room. By the end of Lap 17 Daniels was firmly in the mix applying pressure to Gill.

On lap 19 DeGroot made an error coming out of turn 1 and hit the wall, removing him from the battle however Gill and Daniels were not letting up. Lap 20 saw Daniels dive underneath Gill for a clean pass on the 2nd last corner. Once past he put his head down and tried to pull away from Gill.
After the mid race battles the race again settled into a rhythm Nikora dominating out front Daniels had worked his way back to 2nd after a rough start. Gill held 3rd and DeGroot in 4th. This is how they remained for the remainder of the race.

All the drivers drove exceptionally well on such a demanding circuit. Nikora returning to the track took a dominating win on a unorthodox 6 pit stop strategy.

We now look forward to a well-earned rest. After the break we head to the Belgium where the driver will be put to the test around one of if not the best race tracks in the world.
