RESULTS: Monday Night Summer Series League 2015 - Round 8 @ Homebush

Thursday, April 30, 2015

For the final round of Racecentre’s Summer Series, the Aussie Racing car drivers headed to virtual Sydney Olympic Park. Our championship leader, Jason, ‘psyched-out’ his competition by stating his intimate knowledge of the Homebush streets and proved it too through blistering pace during practice.

Jeremy and Allan laid down the challenge during qualifying, sitting close within the 1:29 bracket. Jason had the last laugh when he recorded a 1:28.870 for pole position. The remainder of the field were lucky to get times under the 1:30's

Race #1:   >>Results<<

Jason and Jeremy got an even start from the front row but Jeremy manages to hold his own around the outside of turn one. Jeremy bounces off a wall to allow Jason through, then Jeremy he gets him back – continuous passing over the first lap sets the tone for the rest of the night. Pat and Allan squabble behind. With two laps to go, Jason locked the tyres through the train station complex, he lost the lead, two seconds and the first round win to Jeremy.

Race #2:   >>Results<<

Chris, perhaps playing games in qualifying, scored pole for the first reverse grid race. Jeremy showcased talent early by picking his way through the field to 2nd within the first lap. Soon after, he launched himself into a barrel roll by clipping the tyres. Allan was cheering though, as he had somehow found himself with a two second lead, followed by Iain McIntosh. Jason reached Allan’s bumper briefly but couldn't keep up the pressure this time – Allan taking a win.

Race #3:   >>Results<<

Race three featured cars going 4-abreast into turn one, with obvious results, i.e. carnage. Jeremy looked to survive the worst of it, up until the last lap, in which he rolled completely on his own! Both Jason slipped through to take his first race win of the night, followed by Allan.

Race #4:   >>Results<<

On the way to turn one for race four, Chris appeared to get clipped and became a bowling ball, and struck out the field. Racecentre duo - Shane and Enda resumed a battle for the lead. An unlucky drop-out from Shane saw him lose his lead to Ryan at the half-way mark. The three race winners eventually made their way through for the top spots though and produced some of the closest racing seen all night. The trio produced lap times better than qualifying and even 3-wide action into the most technical sections of the circuit. Jason just held out Jeremy and Allan, which set up a rather intriguing point scenario for the final race. A win by any of the top-3 guys would net themselves the round win too.

Race #5:   >>Results<<

The final race played into the hands of that trio as well, them pulling a gap on the rest of the field. With only the night’s experience in the Aussie Racecar, Ryan did a remarkable job on catching Allan and briefly stealing the podium spot. Jason’s start cost him precious time against Jeremy. Pat came too form a little bit too late, pulling the gap back to Allan to less than two seconds. Jason certainly held the advantage in terms of lap times, but the gap was too much to recover to Jeremy. Jeremy would take the race and round win … whilst Jason would have to settle for the championship win!

Congratulations to all the competitors on a great Series and well done to the winners!

We had drivers join us from All over including South Australia and even Canada. We hope to see the same size field and great driving in our new Series coming up in a couple of weeks. The famous German series of DTM !!!!
