RESULTS - Monday Night Mixed League 2014 S2 - Trophy Trucks @ Weston Beach UK

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

The big excitement was looming as Truck racing on the beach was always going to be pretty hectic. Due to the wide grid there was no qualification as everyone would get front row. If you wanted the ideal line into turn 1 you would have to work for it.

As this was a 5 race meet the boys got straight into it. The first green flag dropped and there was nothing but the sound of the V8 and sand that filled the air. It was a long run to turn 1 and there was no drafting advantage so it was the one that could manage the wheel spin and the smooth gear change that would see them get the Hole Shot and onto the first jump in front. To see 6 trucks simultaneously get airborne was something else. To see them land was a different story. An immediate left hander saw everyone scramble for the inside line but the winner was easy pickings to be taken out with a tap to the rear quarter so it was on for everyone.

Ryan Hedger and Shane Gilfeather were the first to successfully keep their noses clean as they stretched the lead out front while the others tried their best to chase them down. They both took out the first 3 races between them. Chris Naumovki tried to beat the Fords buy racing with a Chevy. That was great for the main straight of over the start finish line as his top speed was 15km/h’ faster but he had no drive coming out of the corners so he couldn’t compete with the rest of the field for the rest of the race. He soon changed back for the final race. When it got under way for the 5th and final time Ryan Hedger clipped wheels mid-air and at top speed. He lost it and gave away a lot of time to the rest of the field. This left Jeremy Pernesz, Allen Marks, Scott Durham and Shane Gilfeather to rub panels for the next 6 laps. And that they did. We lost count on the lead changes as every corner provided a different leader. Scott Durham soon took control and had an unsalable lead until the start of the final lap as he clipped the inside barrier and turned around. This allowed Allen And Shane to take the lead. It’s the last lap and the 4 drivers wrestled their way hoping to get the final win. They could all sniff it as it got pretty rough out there. Towards the end it was Shane who was in the lead through the dunes section but he got overconfident and carried too much speed flipping his vehicle within meters from the line. Scott regained the lead and never looked back to take the checquered with Allen Marks close behind. Shane limped home to take 3rd with Jeremy home in 4th.
