RESULTS - Monday Night Mixed League 2014 S2 - Go-Karts @ Numerous Tracks INT.

Monday, November 03, 2014

Why would anyone want to hop on a simulator just to drive tiny little Go-Karts? You would find that almost every driver with starry-eyed aspirations began at this level, but they are usually aiming toward the bigger machines. To answer the question, it is because they are an ABSOLUTE BLAST!

Let’s face it; these aren’t your run-of-the-mill hire karts, but rather an angry, competition, 125cc Rotax with a power delivery not dissimilar to a turbocharged engine. Throw-in soft rubber and the ability to snap oversteer under brakes and you can soon see why the great Aryton Senna called this sport “the most breathtaking”.

The night’s format was structured to encourage multiple, short yet intense races on a variety of circuits. Shane Gilfeather, not wanting to miss these races, logged in from the Gold Coast store in a bid to show up the regular runners. Jeremy Pernesz proved that practice makes perfect from the week before and he set the benchmark in terms of pace.

The first two races were held at Buckmore Park; one of the popular stomping grounds of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. Jeremy’s winning streak began and never got broken for the rest of the night. Scott Durham and Shane took a second place each whilst Chris Naumovski claimed the thirds.

The second two races were held at a multi-level indoor centre in Amsterdam, close walls i.e. zero room for error. The big story was a late entry into the event by a traveller from Perth. New guy - Andrew adapted like a fish to water and soon proved to be a constant podium threat.

The final two races at a very technical and high-speed circuit provided all the final drama. Chris set remarkable lap times that left the other scratching their heads. But Jeremy’s consistency reigned supreme, irrespective of the reverse grids thrown at him.

Demand for an encore was high so a few more bonus races were thrown in for fun!  Next round, the vehicles grow only slightly as mixed league takes on Aussie Racing Cars at the now defunct Oran Park.
